Earth Dog

Michal Rovner Israeli

Not on view

Earth Dog is from a series of photographs of the artist’s dog, Stella. Seen against a solid-colored background, the the body of the black dog flattens out into a nearly abstract form. Rovner strips away all extraneous incident and reduces her subject to its essence -- an aesthetic strategy that describes nearly all of her work. All life is borne by the dog’s half-shut eyes and soft, lyric ear -- minimal elements that nonetheless communicate trust and hope from across the universe that separates man and animal.
