Untitled (Nest/Trees)
Kiki Smith American, born Germany
Not on view
Known for her varied and innovative use of materials, Smith has experimented extensively with computer scanned and ink-jet printed images. She created this lyrical yet slightly ominous image of a nest and trees by scanning photographs onto a computer, manipulating the image, composition, and color, and then printing it on an Iris printer (an ink-jet printer used for the production of fine art prints). Although less emotionally charged, her weblike design recalls Jackson Pollock's famous dripped and poured compositions of the early 1950s.
