Minted during the era of the Abbasid caliphate, this silver dirham names the reigning caliph, al-Mahdi, and the prophet Muhammad in the inscription on its obverse. An abstract design encircles the text. Meanwhile, the reverse bears an inscription of the tawhid in the central field and information as to the date and site of its minting in the margin.
