Decanter
Designer Christopher Dresser British, Scottish
Manufactory Hukin & Heath British
This decanter or claret jug was produced by the Birmingham and London based firm of Hukin & Heath to the designs of Christopher Dresser. The latter began to advise the firm around 1878. Alongside the traditional makers’ mark, Hukin & Heath had their products stamped with a replica of Dresser’s own signature. Somewhat more conservative in style, the present decanter is an example of Christopher Dresser’s clean design looking back at neo-classical forms established in the eighteenth-century, such as claret jugs or chocolate pots.
