Head, 1975–A Short Film by George Griffin

A gem of analog animation, George Griffin’s "Head" (1975) offers a delightfully snarky and clever self-portrait of the artist as a not-so-young man, undone by his own cartoon surrogate. The filmmaker combines a number of animation techniques, including flipbooks, stop-motion, and altered documentary footage, often within the same frame. Its structure is discontinuous, non-narrative; its focus, self-referential; its aim, to re-examine the pioneering trickfilm processes of Émile Cohl with contemporary wit and irony.
